Read on... | | After a stay of many great years in Jakarta, about 7 mostly Dutch young men concluded after extensive market research that there are probably not a lot of cities that can beat the nightlife of Jakarta. But one thing appeared to be missing - a European style pub where the atmosphere would be intimate and easy-going, and where it would possible to have a good conversation. A place to have a Bintang or Heineken, and "bitterballen" or "shoarma". So in early 1999, in the midst of the Indonesian crisis, these guys started to plan setting up a bar where all this would be available. A location needed to be found, attractive personnel needed to be hired, deals with a well known beer brewery and the construction of the brown style wooden looks and furniture. | | | | OUR NEIGHBORS | | BEBEK BALI | | CARAVELA | | TGI Friday’s | | |  | | | | WHERE WE ARE | | We’re in Taman Ria. A new entertainment park in the heart of Jakarta, around a lake. Taman Ria is located betwen the Hilton Hotel and the Indonesian House of Parlement (MPR) building. Don’t worry it’s safe! There are about 80 wooden seats inside and an additional 40 rattan seats on the terrace. | |  | | | | COSTUMERS | | Just over half of the usual crowd are expatriates. Most of the Indonesian visitors have ties to foreigners or have had some other exposure to other countries, like an overseas study. However, more and more curious locals come in to have a look.
